Aoun Urges International Community to Step In to Halt Israeli Attacks

President Joseph Aoun on Sunday condemned Israel’s strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, calling the attack a new sign that Tel Aviv is disregarding mounting international appeals to halt its military operations.

In a statement, Aoun said the afternoon strike on the densely populated district “is yet another indication that Israel has no regard for the repeated calls to stop its assaults on Lebanon.” He added that Israel continues to dismiss international resolutions and “all initiatives aimed at curbing the escalation and restoring stability, not only to Lebanon but to the entire region.”

The president said Lebanon has upheld its commitments for nearly a year by maintaining a cessation of hostilities and putting forward “initiative after initiative” to defuse tensions. Despite this, he noted, violations have continued.

Aoun urged the international community to step in “firmly and seriously” to halt the attacks, warning that failure to act risks a broader deterioration.

He called on world powers to prevent “any slide that would reignite tensions in the region” and to help “spare further bloodshed” as Lebanon faces mounting security and political pressure.
