Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Sunday that no decision regarding Hezbollah’s weapons can be implemented as long as Israel refuses to fulfill its obligations, underscoring the ongoing complexity of regional security issues.
Speaking to Al Arabiya, Berri noted that Hezbollah has not fired a single shot since the November 2024 ceasefire, while the Israeli army continues its strikes across Lebanon.
The speaker emphasized that there is no risk of civil war or any threat to Lebanon’s civil peace.
Berri’s assurances of stability appear to contradict remarks made recently by Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, who warned that any State move to disarm the group could trigger internal unrest.
“I will listen to the U.S. envoy’s perspective on how to disarm Hezbollah, but I have nothing to propose to the U.S. envoy myself,” he said, signaling Lebanon’s cautious approach to external pressure on the matter.

Berri also called for a national dialogue on the disarmament issue and the principle of restricting weapons to the State, rather than the method currently being proposed.
