Representatives from the United States, France, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) convened on Monday in Naqoura for the first time since a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into effect on November 27.
According to a joint statement issued by the United States and French embassies in Lebanon as well as UNIFIL, the meeting—hosted by UNIFIL and chaired by the United States with assistance from France— focused on enhancing coordination among the involved parties to advance the implementation of the ceasefire agreement under the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1701.
The collaborative mechanism will meet regularly to ensure close coordination and sustained progress toward maintaining peace and stability along the Blue Line, a critical component of UNSCR 1701, which aims to prevent renewed hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, the statement noted.
