Lebanon… The Truck of Explosives and Lessons Ignored
The affair of the explosives transported from the Bekaa to Beirut has dispelled hopes that the second anniversary of the assassination of the former secretary-general, Hassan Nasrallah, would be an occasion for reviewing the party's military and political choices in light of its heavy losses and of what Lebanon, and the party's base in particular, has suffered in killing, displacement, and destruction. The discourse of the party and its secretary-general, Naim Qassem, affirmed the continuation of its course and defended it, rather than holding the leadership, its policies, and their results to account.

How Hezbollah Is Preventing Its Disarmament, Again
Hezbollah supporters blocked roads in Beirut and protested the Lebanese government’s attempts to assert sovereignty on October 16 and 17, after a series of government internal security raids compromised Hezbollah’s weapons smuggling, illicit finance, and de facto statelets within Lebanon. Hezbollah officials expressed fury at the government’s unannounced and entirely legitimate police action, and began threatening Lebanon’s government and population with civil conflict if the government continued to challenge Hezbollah’s criminal and terrorist activities on October 19. The Lebanese government responded with measures that Hezbollah officials likely did not expect, including major military deployments to the Hezbollah stronghold in Dahieh, Beirut’s southern suburbs. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s recent statements of resolve to restore the rule of law contrast entirely with Hezbollah’s desired effect, which is to freeze the government into inaction using credible threats of violent unrest.

Lindsay Lohan Announces Engagement to Boyfriend Bader Shammas
Actress Lindsay Lohan has announced her engagement in a series of loved-up photos on Instagram.
The Mean Girls star, 35, shared the news with a string of black and white photos in which she is seen cuddling boyfriend Bader Shammas and showing off a diamond ring.
She captioned the pictures with a ring emoji, adding: "My love. My life. My family. My future. @bader.shammas #love."
She shared the news with her almost 10 million Instagram followers, while Shammas has a private account with under 600.
Diamond expert Zack Stone sid her 4ct ring, which "looks to feature an exquisite radiant cut diamond on a solitaire setting", is likely to have a value of "around $200,000" (£150,000).
It comes as Lohan makes her return to acting next month in a Netflix Christmas romantic comedy.
