Last week, Israeli aircraft bombed the Abu Al Duhur air base in Syria. The Israelis initially failed to admit responsibility for the attack, but to a number of observers it was very reminiscent of the attacks in April last year against the Hama and T4 air bases. At the time, these were interpreted as an Israeli effort to prevent the Turkish military from using the bases, amid the rising regional rivalry between Israel and Turkey.

Kataeb Secretary General Serge Dagher stated that neither Iran and Hezbollah nor the United States and France want to escalate the conflict into a full-scale war.
"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is interested in expanding the war, as he believes it is in his interest to emerge victorious from the battle. Hamas, too, sees an advantage in broadening the war to involve more fronts, while Hezbollah is fulfilling its duty, possibly being the only one doing so to this extent," Dagher said in an interview with MTV.
He emphasized that everyone is awaiting the outcome of negotiations, as no one desires to initiate the battle.
Dagher reminded that Lebanon was preparing for the summer season, but Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar decided to carry out this operation, prompting Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah to open a supportive front from southern Lebanon in support of Hamas, launching operations from there.
He asserted, "As a Lebanese citizen, I refuse to have our future held hostage by Hezbollah's decision to open a supporting front."
Regarding the notion of the dissolution of the Israeli entity, Dagher noted that neither Iran nor Hezbollah possesses the military capability to eliminate Israel. However, if Israel decided to obliterate any country, it could do so given its military and nuclear capabilities.
He continued, "Our defense of Lebanon against Israel will not be through force."
"We oppose Hezbollah's actions in the south. Israel is an enemy state of Lebanon," he indicated.
The Kataeb Secretary General emphasized that everyone is awaiting the outcome of negotiations, as no one desires to initiate the battle.
He pointed out that it is in everyone's interest for Israel to lose today, but regarding victory, "we consider ourselves victorious regardless."
Dagher explained that Hezbollah today is not just a party but rather the Islamic resistance in Lebanon, a military ideological movement that is part of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards
"We are concerned about all the residents of the south, and no one is more concerned about them than us. We are convinced that the residents of the south do not want war and do not share Hezbollah's ideology," he concluded.
