Albeit under new management, the state remains stuck between a mountain of debt, a sea of social and economic inequalities, and a black hole in place of once efficient (more or less) institutions. No local or global stakeholder disagrees on the baseline: the country urgently needs tangible trust and solidarity – in form of investments and loans – as much as extreme determination to have a chance of escaping this maelstrom.

"Ain Ebel" residents and the family of the victim Elias Hasrouni are organizing a popular protest movement in response to his killing on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.
The residents and the family are calling on the Maronite Patriarchate and the security forces to protect civilians and pursue an investigation to uncover the truth.
They are also urging the UNIFIL to safeguard civilians within their operational scope according to Article 12 of Resolution 1701.
