Frustrated by Israeli Violations, Lebanese Army Threatens to Suspend Ceasefire Cooperation on Site Inspections

The Lebanese Army utterly condemned the latest Israeli strikes, carried out Thursday evening in Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon, slamming the ongoing "daily violations" of the Lebanon's sovereignty.

“These repeated violations disregard the ceasefire mechanism and undermine the efforts of the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee,” the Army Command said in a statement issued on Friday.

The Army described the timing of the attacks, on the eve of Al-Adha holiday, as a deliberate attempt by Israel to disrupt Lebanon’s recovery and prevent it from capitalizing on favorable conditions.

The Lebanese Army Command noted that immediately after receiving Israeli military evacuation warnings, it coordinated with the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee to prevent the attacks. Despite Israel’s refusal to allow inspections, the Army deployed patrols to inspect multiple sites.

Reaffirming its commitment to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement, the Army warned that Israel’s ongoing violations and refusal to cooperate with the monitoring committee undermine both the committee’s and the military’s roles. The statement cautioned that this could lead the Lebanese military to suspend its cooperation with the Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism regarding site inspections.

Despite these challenges, the Army stressed its steadfast commitment to restoring the authority of the Lebanese state throughout its territory and ensuring the security of its citizens. It described this mission as a sacred national duty that remains its highest priority, regardless of the hurdles it faces.
