Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel held a series of high-level meetings in Washington, focusing on Lebanon’s political challenges, economic pressures, and the role of U.S. support in maintaining stability.
Gemayel began the day with a working breakfast with two U.S. Congress members of Lebanese descent, Darin Lahoud and Darrell Issa. The discussions centered on developments in Lebanon and the importance of sustained U.S. support for the Lebanese Army, which Gemayel described as the cornerstone of national unity. He also stressed the need to empower Lebanon’s state institutions to exercise full authority throughout the country.
During the meeting, participants discussed consolidating weapons under state control and channeling international support toward building institutions capable of enforcing sovereignty. Gemayel highlighted the importance of upcoming parliamentary elections, calling for democratic mechanisms that ensure full and effective participation of the Lebanese diaspora.
Later, Gemayel took part in a dialogue session hosted by the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), alongside its president, former ambassador Ed Gabriel, and a board composed of prominent Lebanese-American figures. He provided an overview of Lebanon’s political landscape, addressed ongoing economic and sovereignty challenges, and emphasized the vital role of the Lebanese diaspora in supporting state-building efforts.
Gemayel concluded the day with meetings at the U.S. Department of State, engaging officials responsible for Lebanese affairs to discuss ways to bolster stability and enhance international support for Lebanon and its legitimate institutions.
He was accompanied on the visit by Marwan Abdallah, head of the Kataeb’s Foreign Affairs Department, and Zahi Abi Younes, director of the party’s Washington office.
