Gemayel Marks 18 Years Since Assassination of Kataeb MP

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel paid tribute on Friday to slain lawmaker Antoine Ghanem, marking 18 years since his assassination, and vowed to continue the struggle for a “free and strong” Lebanese state.

“Eighteen years have passed since you left. Today, Lebanon is moving steadily toward becoming a free and strong state. Your sacrifice has borne fruit, and your martyrdom carried the truth of the nation,” Gemayel wrote on X.

“We promise you to remain faithful and to carry on the journey,” he added in his message, addressing his late party comrade.

Ghanem, a prominent Kataeb MP, was killed in a massive car bomb attack in the Beirut suburb of Sin el-Fil on September 19, 2007. His assassination came amid a string of killings targeting lawmakers, journalists and political figures opposed to Syrian influence in Lebanon.
