MP Elias Hankach has reaffirmed his stance on the necessity of restricting weapons to the country’s legitimate forces, emphasizing that armed groups have failed to achieve their stated objectives.
“Weapons did not obliterate Israel, nor did they take us to pray in Jerusalem. We have learned that there should be no weapons except those held by the legitimate State forces,” Hankach told This Is Lebanon ahead of the second parliamentary session discussing the government's ministerial statement.
The lawmaker stressed that it is time for all militias to surrender their arms, reminding that the ceasefire agreement explicitly addressing this issue had already been approved by ministers in the previous government, including those affiliated with Hezbollah.
Hankach further highlighted that Lebanon’s political stability hinges on Hezbollah's full integration into the State and its institutions.
"When Hezbollah commits to the Lebanese State, there will no longer be any problems," he stated, suggesting that the country’s ongoing political and security challenges stem from the presence of armed factions operating outside State authority.
