Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon is part of the interim agreement with the US.
His statement comes after Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said earlier the country will not pull its forces out of south Lebanon, and will continue to act to destroy terror infrastructure in the area.
Baghaei said Tehran still holds “deep mistrust” of the United States despite an agreed framework aimed at ending the war.
“Unfortunately, it must be acknowledged that Iran’s deep mistrust of the United States stems from a long history of wrongdoing by American leaders,” he said.
“The United States still has a long way to go before it can earn the trust of the Iranian people,” he added, adding that the framework is “merely a step toward reducing tensions and ending a war” which broke out late February.
