In the wake of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s assassination, Iran’s immediate priority is not retaliation but helping Hezbollah recover, according to two members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards who spoke with The New York Times.
The officials, including a strategist involved in recent planning meetings, revealed that Iran's current focus is on restoring Hezbollah's operational capabilities.
This involves naming a successor to Nasrallah, restructuring the group’s command hierarchy, and reestablishing secure communication networks.
Once these objectives are achieved, Hezbollah would then be in a position to plan its retaliation against Israel, the sources stated.
The Revolutionary Guards members also indicated that Iran intends to send a senior Quds Force commander to Beirut, traveling via Syria, to assist in Hezbollah’s recovery and reorganization efforts.
