Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes across Lebanon overnight and into Friday, targeting sites the military said were used by Hezbollah, including several multi-story buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Israeli military said it hit ten buildings in the Hezbollah stronghold known as the Dahiyeh, describing them as facilities used by the Iran-backed group. Among the targets were the headquarters of Hezbollah’s executive council and a warehouse used to store drones.
“The command centers were intended to be used by Hezbollah to advance and carry out numerous terror attacks against Israeli troops and the State of Israel,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
Ahead of the strikes, the military issued evacuation warnings for four major neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut, prompting residents to flee the densely populated districts before the bombardment.
Hours later, Hezbollah issued a warning in Hebrew directed at residents of Israeli towns near the Lebanese border, in what appeared to be a mocking response to Israel’s own evacuation notices to Lebanese civilians before airstrikes.
“Warning to residents of northern settlements, you are ordered to evacuate all settlements located within five kilometers of the border,” the group said in a statement, accompanied by a map indicating the areas where residents should move south.
“Your military’s aggression against Lebanese sovereignty and safe citizens, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the expulsion campaign it is carrying out will not go unchallenged,” the statement added.
Israel had earlier warned residents to leave Beirut’s southern suburbs for the first time since the escalation began, triggering an exodus from the Dahiyeh area before a wave of bombings targeting what Israel described as Hezbollah infrastructure.
Strikes were also reported across other parts of Lebanon. In the Bekaa Valley, several air raids targeted the towns of Douris, Brital and Taybeh.
In southern Lebanon, Israeli warplanes launched overnight and early-morning raids on the towns of Srifa, Ayta al-Shaab, Touline, Sawaneh and Majdal Selm.
Aircraft also carried out a heavy strike on the town of Hanniyeh in the Tyre district.
The NNA correspondent in Marjayoun reported additional airstrikes on the towns of Sawaneh and Khyam.
Israeli jets also struck the town of Qlaileh, destroying the Risala Scouts center and a women’s Husseiniya.
In the Zahrani area, the Israeli army targeted and destroyed the office of the Saksakiya Online website, according to the NNA correspondent.
On Friday morning, Israeli warplanes carried out a heavy strike near the Najdeh Hospital in the town of Habboush in the Nabatieh area.
Two additional airstrikes were reported around the town of Toul, while aircraft also struck Ansar and Kfar Tebnit.
The Israeli military said that since Hezbollah joined the conflict on Monday, it has struck more than 500 targets across Lebanon. These targets included senior Hezbollah commanders, members of the group’s elite Radwan Force, rocket launchers, command centers and weapons depots, as well as members and infrastructure belonging to other armed groups.
In southern Lebanon, the Israeli military estimates that around 420,000 Lebanese civilians have fled their homes after it ordered residents to evacuate the area and move north of the Litani River.
