Israel’s military on Wednesday issued a new evacuation warning for residents in a dozen villages in southern Lebanon ahead of expected airstrikes, despite a fragile truce intended to halt fighting with the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
“For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and move away from the villages and towns by at least 1,000 meters into open areas,” Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a post on X, listing 12 villages.
The warning covered Kawthariyet al-Sayad, Ghassaniyeh, Mazraat al-Daoudiyeh, Bedias, Rihan, Zellaya, Bazouriyeh, Harouf, Habboush, Ansariyeh, Qlaileh, and Deir al-Zahrani—most of them located north of the Litani River.
“In light of the Hezbollah terror organization’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, the army is forced to act against it with force and does not intend to harm you,” Adraee added.
Airstrikes and military activity showed no sign of easing. Drone flights were reported over Beirut’s southern suburbs and villages in the Zahrani area, while an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft flew at very low altitude over the eastern and western mountain ranges, circling above villages south and east of Baalbek.
On the ground, Israeli warplanes struck the towns of Rashknaniyeh in the Tyre district and Safad al-Battikh in the Bint Jbeil district. There were no immediate reports of casualties from those strikes, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.
Elsewhere, a series of airstrikes targeted the home of the mayor of Zallaya in the western Bekaa, killing Mayor Ali Qassem Ahmad, his wife, and their son, according to local reports.
Drone strikes hit the town of Mifadoun in four waves in the morning, killing two people, while artillery shelling also struck the area. Warplanes later targeted the vicinity of the public school in the town.
Israeli aircraft carried out two waves of strikes on Wadi al-Nahr between Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh and Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, while the towns of Arnoun, Yohmor al-Shaqif, and the outskirts of Qabrikha were subjected to intermittent artillery fire.
Overnight, a drone strike in the town of Deir Kifa wounded three paramedics from Hezbollah’s Islamic Health Authority, who were transported to nearby hospitals by al-Risala ambulance teams. Israeli warplanes also struck the towns of Braachit and Qlayleh, causing extensive damage to the Burj Qlayleh public school.
At dawn, the Israeli army carried out a large-scale detonation operation in the town of Khiam.
Meanwhile, hostilities by Hezbollah continued. The Israeli military said its air force intercepted a “suspicious aerial target” in the area where its forces are operating in southern Lebanon.
According to the military, Hezbollah launched several rockets, mortars, and explosive drones at Israeli troops stationed in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. The projectiles landed near the forces but caused no casualties.
Overnight, an apparent Hezbollah drone was intercepted over southern Lebanon, and an interceptor missile was later fired at another drone with which contact was lost, the military said.
The Israeli army also said it had killed several Hezbollah operatives in strikes on buildings used by the group in the western sector of southern Lebanon a day earlier, adding that the 25 targets hit over the past day included weapons depots.
