Israeli warplanes launched a wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Thursday, marking one of the most intense escalations in recent weeks.
More than 15 airstrikes hit the Ali al-Taher and Dabsha hills near Kfar Rumman in the Nabatiyeh district, in attacks that came without prior warning.
Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli military executed 20 strikes in total across southern Lebanon in two separate waves.
Later, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed the strikes, saying the Israeli Air Force had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in the Beaufort Mountain area.
The Israeli army said the targeted site served as a command and control facility for Hezbollah’s rocket-launching and air defense operations and included “terrorists, weapons, and tunnel shafts.”
“The facility was part of a significant underground project which has now been rendered inoperable by Israeli strikes,” the army said, adding that the infrastructure and activities at the site “constitute a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”
As warplanes pounded the south, reconnaissance drones also crisscrossed the skies over the western and central sectors of southern Lebanon, including the airspace above Bint Jbeil. Israeli aircraft were also seen over Beirut’s southern suburbs during the same period.
Simultaneously, Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Bastra Farm and the edge of Shebaa, while Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on a civilian vehicle traveling along the Adaisseh–Kfarkila road. No casualties were reported in the shooting.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said in a preliminary statement that the Israeli strikes in Nabatiyeh had left one person dead and at least eight others wounded.
