An Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, killing a Hezbollah commander, local media reported.
The strike reportedly hit the car while it was traveling between Deir al-Zahrani and Houmine al-Fawqa.
The Israeli army confirmed the strike, saying it targeted Hassan Abbas Izzedine, a Hezbollah commander from the group’s aerial defense unit.
According to the Israeli military, Izzedine was a significant figure within Hezbollah’s aerial defense operations and played a key role in efforts to rebuild the unit’s infrastructure, which had been damaged during the conflict. He was also involved in procuring new equipment for the unit, which posed a considerable threat to Israeli military aircraft, the military stated.
Additionally, the Israeli army confirmed a second airstrike earlier in the day in southern Lebanon, targeting a group of Hezbollah operatives at a facility linked to the group.
The two strikes occurred as the committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah held a meeting in Ras Naqoura, southern Lebanon.
