An assault in the Syrian coastal city of Baniyas, believed to be carried out by Israel, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including an Iranian commander and two escorts of non-Syrian origins, as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitoring group based in London.
Al Hadath, a Saudi broadcasting channel, citing Iranian media, identified the deceased commander as Rada Zarai from the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented 20 incidents on Syrian soil since the start of 2024, believed to be conducted by Israel, comprising 14 aerial bombardments and six ground-launched rocket assaults. These operations have reportedly led to the destruction of 39 sites, encompassing arms and munitions depots, command headquarters, and vehicles.
Syrian state TV highlighted explosions near Sayyida Zeinab, a region known for its Iranian military presence, just south of Damascus, on Wednesday. The broadcasts mentioned that air defense mechanisms engaged "hostile targets." The Syrian Defense Ministry announced that the majority of missiles from an alleged Israeli offensive targeting the rural outskirts of Damascus were intercepted, causing damage to properties.
The attack also resulted in fatalities among Hezbollah members, according to the SOHR, attributing the strike to Israel.
