The Political Bureau of the Lebanese Kataeb Party held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party leader Samy Gemayel. After reviewing the latest developments, it issued the following statement:

1. As Lebanon marks the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, the Lebanese people — especially the families of the victims and the injured — are still waiting for the full truth to be uncovered and for justice to be served. Among the victims were Kataeb members Nizar Najarian, the party’s secretary-general, Joe Akiki, Joe Andoun, and Tony Barmaki.

The Political Bureau stresses that justice cannot tolerate further delay and urges the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Cassation to expedite its legal submission so that an indictment can be issued and trials can begin. Those responsible must be held accountable, regardless of their position or office, in order to restore confidence in the judiciary and reaffirm the principle that no one is above the law.

2. The Political Bureau welcomes the State Council’s decision to suspend implementation of the circular issued by the finance minister that sought to convert village common lands into State property. This ruling is an important step toward protecting the historic rights of villages and their residents as it reaffirms the legitimacy of the battle fought by the Kataeb Party in defense of village identity and the rights of local communities.

Therefore, the bureau calls for the preservation of village common lands as an integral part of the historical and legal rights of local communities.

3. The Political Bureau considers the continuation of negotiations in Rome as a new opportunity to strengthen the diplomatic track aimed at ending the war and to reaffirm that the Lebanese State alone has the authority to negotiate on behalf of Lebanon and defend its national rights.

It emphasizes that preserving this diplomatic course requires the swift implementation of government decisions to place all weapons under the exclusive authority of the State, thereby consolidating the cessation of hostilities, securing a full Israeli withdrawal, and strengthening the Lebanese State’s sovereignty and authority across the entire country.

4. The anniversary of the Mountain Reconciliation stands as a reminder that genuine political will can overcome the legacy of war and help rebuild the nation. The bureau points out that the historic reconciliation was preceded by the meeting between former President Amine Gemayel and Druze leader Walid Jumblat in 2000, following Gemayel’s return from years of forced exile, and by the foundational document that emerged from that meeting.

This landmark national experience proved that the courage to confront the past honestly and a commitment to national partnership are the foundation of lasting stability, and that reconciliation remains a permanent national choice that protects Lebanon and strengthens its unity.
