The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1-The south has become captive of the escalating Israeli criminality against civilians, with Hezbollah generously providing it with all the excuses to escalate its attacks, clinging to the theory of diverting Israel's attention from Gaza at the expense of Lebanon and the blood of its people, including children, women, and youth, in a lie that has become undeniable as it has failed to deter the brutality of the fighting, but instead opened fire on the Lebanese and displaced thousands from their land.

The Kataeb Political Bureau refuses the spread of destructive weapons in villages and residential areas, as well as the tunnels that expose all Lebanese to an unwanted war.

It considers that the only valid logic today is for the Lebanese army, authorized by the Lebanese people and the international community, to defend Lebanon and protect its borders in cooperation with international forces.

The Kataeb Political Bureau emphasizes that deterring any attack is not the responsibility of militias usurping the role of the state, but rather the responsibility of legitimate institutions operating according to the constitution and laws, through active diplomacy working to support the Lebanese army and calling for an end to the fighting and preventing its expansion into Lebanon.

It voices its rejection over the statements issued by Hezbollah officials regarding the utilization of the battle in the south for domestic purposes, saying that this stance serves as further proof of a militia-driven strategy that directly leverages arms internally to advance political interests and carry out external agendas.

This pattern has been established since 2006 and continues unabated, evidenced today in the presidential file by violating the constitution, norms, and circumventing the balance of power.

2- The Kataeb Political Bureau believes that the deadly deadlock in the presidential file is rooted in the insistence on a single candidate and the desire to impose him at the expense of paralyzing the entire country, as witnessed between 2014 and 2016.

It asserts that the only solution within the existing domestic equation lies in Hezbollah relinquishing its approach of imposition and dictation, and opting for candidates capable of truly bridging divides, not just in words but in actions. Lebanese citizens deserve sacrifices after enduring so much, especially at a time when the country requires decisive steps and exceptional measures taken by all citizens equally, rather than one faction at the expense of another.

3-The remnants of authority in Lebanon are entirely absent from the lives of its citizens in all aspects, having only succeeded in approving a new tax budget that will further diminish their ability to survive amidst complete decay of infrastructure that has pushed Lebanese society backward. Buildings are crumbling without accountability or inquiry, and roads are deteriorating, forcing citizens to navigate through them, submerged in the waters of egregious neglect, or gradually collapsing, endangering their lives.

All ministries are responsible for this deteriorated situation, and any attempt to evade accountability is rejected.

All ministries are urged to take action to halt the ongoing cycle of daily humiliation on roads that no longer meet the basic safety standards.
