The Lebanese Kataeb Party issued the following statement:
The Lebanese Kataeb Party has been following press reports and comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of Syrian involvement in Lebanon aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s military structure.
The party, while reaffirming its firm position calling for the exclusive monopoly of arms by the Lebanese State and the enforcement of its full authority over all Lebanese territory, rejects any proposal based on direct Syrian intervention to achieve this goal. Such an approach must take place within a clear framework that respects Lebanese sovereignty, strengthens legitimate State institutions, and proceeds with the support of Lebanon’s regional and international partners, in a manner that serves only the interests of the Lebanese State.
Lebanon is seeking to open a new chapter in its relations with Syria, based on mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and constructive cooperation on matters of shared interest. From this perspective, the Lebanese-Syrian relationship should be built on partnership between two independent states, not on military or political intervention by either side in the affairs of the other.
In this context, the Kataeb Party welcomes the position expressed by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who rejected calls for military intervention in Lebanon, describing it as a step that reflects respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence and lays the groundwork for sound relations between the two countries.
The Kataeb Party stresses that building a sovereign, free, and capable Lebanese State requires strengthening legitimate institutions and enabling them to fully carry out their national responsibilities, while grounding foreign relations in mutual respect and cooperation, free from any form of guardianship or external interference.
