The Kataeb Political Bureau held its weekly meeting, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel. After discussing recent developments and the past week’s events, the Bureau issued the following statement:
1. The Political Bureau underscores the urgent need to translate Lebanon’s commitment to implementing international resolutions into concrete, actionable steps. Chief among these is the issue of disarmament, which must be prioritized on the government’s agenda, accompanied by a clear, structured timeline to achieve this objective. Taking this step is crucial to setting Lebanon on a path to recovery and attracting the investments needed to rebuild the country on solid ground, ensuring lasting stability that won’t be undermined by future conflicts.
2. The Bureau closely monitored the alarming developments along the Lebanese-Syrian border and the ongoing Israeli airstrikes targeting various sites in the South and the Bekaa. These incidents share a common factor: the presence of unauthorized weapons, making their complete removal from Lebanese territory an urgent necessity.
In this context, the Bureau reaffirmed the importance of fully implementing international resolutions aimed at safeguarding Lebanon, particularly UNSC Resolution 1701, along with Resolution 1680, ensuring that the country remains under the protection of its national army and the international community.
The Kataeb Party also commended the Lebanese army for its tireless efforts to defend the country from attacks and swiftly contain unrest along the borders. In this regard, the recent meetings held by party leader Gemayel with Defense Minister Michel Menassa and Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal underscored the Kataeb’s unwavering support for the army, the President of the Republic, the Defense Minister, and all security institutions in their mission to restore state sovereignty and authority over the entirety of Lebanese territory.
3. The Political Bureau stressed the importance of holding municipal and mayoral elections on time, without delay, given their significant role in shaping local governance. The Bureau emphasized that ensuring these elections take place as scheduled requires immediate action to remove the remaining obstacles hindering the process.
