The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting, chaired by Party Leader Samy Gemayel, to discuss the latest political and security developments. Following the discussions, it issued the following statement:
1. The Political Bureau welcomes the ceasefire agreement that ended a brutal chapter of suffering, destruction, and loss of life in Gaza, resulting in a prisoner exchange. The party hopes this will mark a solid step toward achieving a just and lasting peace in the region. The Kataeb Party also welcomes the summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh and commends the position expressed by President Joseph Aoun, which reflects the region’s shift toward political and diplomatic settlements. The party stresses that Lebanon must be part of this trajectory by adopting dialogue and international legitimacy as the sole framework for resolving conflicts, particularly the conflict with Israel, in a way that safeguards the country's sovereignty and ends the logic of perpetual war.
2. On the anniversary of October 13, 1990, the Kataeb Party pays tribute to the sacrifices of the heroes of the Lebanese Army and the young “Army Supporters” who courageously confronted Assad’s forces in defense of a free and independent Lebanon, before falling under Syrian bombardment; a day that marked the beginning of a long era of occupation and tutelage.
Today, after the regime that once attacked Lebanon has fallen and paid the price for its aggression, the Kataeb Party salutes the heroism of the Lebanese resistance fighters who continued the struggle for fifteen years against the occupation, facing assassinations, abductions, and the suppression of freedoms. The party also honors the martyrs of the Lebanese Army and the civilians who shed their blood defending their homeland.
The Political Bureau affirms that these immense sacrifices were not in vain. The peaceful resistance launched after that dark day remains a guiding light for national struggle until the establishment of a capable, sovereign, and just State; this is the very dream for which so many martyrs gave their lives.
3. The Kataeb Party reiterates its unwavering stance in support of granting non-resident Lebanese citizens the right to fully participate in the upcoming elections, allowing them to vote for all 128 parliamentary seats in recognition of their constitutional rights and enduring connection to their homeland. The party considers this right an essential part of meaningful political participation and a reflection of the diaspora’s commitment to Lebanon’s future and prosperity.
The Political Bureau once again urges the government to swiftly submit the necessary amendment to Parliament to ensure elections are held within their constitutional timeframe and that all Lebanese, both at home and abroad, can fully exercise their democratic rights.
4. In light of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study published in The Lancet, which revealed alarming figures showing a sharp rise in cancer cases in Lebanon, the Kataeb Party calls on the government and Parliament to treat this issue as a national — not merely a health — priority. The party urges the authorities to follow up on the study’s findings and develop a comprehensive strategy to combat cancer through prevention, early detection, and effective treatment.
