The Lebanese Army said on Tuesday that the man captured on video leaving a building by motorcycle shortly after an Israeli airstrike on Sunday in the Ain Saadeh area was a delivery worker, according to a statement from the Army’s Directorate of Orientation.
The strike targeted a residential apartment in Ain Saadeh, killing three people, including Lebanese Forces official Pierre Mouawad, his wife, and another woman.
The Israeli military said Monday that the strike, intended to assassinate a Hezbollah operative, had failed.
“The operation failed to eliminate the Hezbollah operative,” the military said, adding that it “regrets the harm” caused to civilians.
In its statement on Tuesday, the Lebanese Army said security investigations and monitoring had determined that the motorcyclist seen leaving the building at the time of the strike was a delivery worker who had regularly delivered medications to one of the apartments over the past several months. The army reiterated that investigations into the incident are continuing and urged the public not to spread speculation, warning that unfounded claims about sensitive security matters could fuel internal tensions.
