Lebanon’s government just did something that would have been unthinkable a year ago. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s Cabinet imposed a blanket ban on Hezbollah’s military and security activities last week, ordering the Lebanese Armed Forces to stop rocket launches and other attacks from Lebanese territory.

Both US and Israeli officials warned that the group had started to rebuild its military infrastructure right after the war ended in November 2024 with the ceasefire agreement. With its links to Iran intact, and its political/financial foundations protected, Hezbollah was able to rebuild some of its arsenal, reinstate part of its chain of command, and restore some of the cash it had lost.

Lebanese authorities seized $7 million in smuggled cash at Beirut Airport as part of an ongoing crackdown on illicit financial flows.
According to sources cited by Al-Hadath, the cash was discovered in several suitcases aboard a flight arriving from an African country. The suitcases belonged to individuals from a town in southern Lebanon, prompting investigators to open a formal inquiry.
The Financial Crimes Bureau has been assigned to follow up on the case, seeking to determine the origin of the seized funds.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank governor ordered the confiscated money to be securely stored in the bank’s vault as investigations continue.
