Lebanon's General Directorate of General Security announced the closure of its northern land border crossings following repeated Israeli airstrikes targeting these areas. The move aims to prioritize the safety of travelers and individuals crossing into Lebanon.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Directorate emphasized that this measure was necessary to ensure the safety of travelers and individuals crossing into Lebanon, noting that the closure will remain in effect until further notice.
Despite the closures, the Masnaa border crossing, situated in the east of the country, will remain operational, the Directorate confirmed. This crossing is particularly significant for Syrian nationals, who rely on it for both entry and exit. The statement clarified that movement through Masnaa will continue under previously established temporary and exceptional measures designed to ensure smooth operations during this period.
The closures follow a series of Israeli airstrikes overnight on several border crossings and routes connecting Lebanon and Syria. The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted key corridors used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah.
Among the affected areas, the Israeli army confirmed strikes on the Arida Crossing, which links northern Lebanon with Syria, and several routes in the al-Qusayr area. According to Syria's state news agency, the Arida Crossing has been rendered inoperable as a result of the attacks.
