Lebanon Must Get Ready as Israel and Turkey Battle for Influence in the Levant
Last week, Israeli aircraft bombed the Abu Al Duhur air base in Syria. The Israelis initially failed to admit responsibility for the attack, but to a number of observers it was very reminiscent of the attacks in April last year against the Hama and T4 air bases. Qatar Sends More Food Aid to Lebanese Army
Qatar on Saturday sent another consignment of food aid to the beleaguered Lebanese Army amid the country’s deepening economic crisis.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement Saturday, the Lebanese Army said that it received at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport 70 tons of foodstuff sent from Qatar.
• In a program announced in July, Qatar said that it would provide monthly food aid for Lebanon’s military.
• On Dec. 28, Lebanese Army chief General Joseph Aoun and other security chiefs met with President Michel Aoun to reiterate concerns over how the economic crisis was affecting the livelihood of their forces’ personnel.
