Efforts are ongoing to provide buses to evacuate Lebanese citizens currently in Ukraine, Lebanon’s Ambassador to Ukraine Ali Daher said Friday, on the second day of the Russian invasion.
Here’s what we know:
•“Efforts, as far as possible, are ongoing to ensure a safe evacuation of the Lebanese from Ukraine,” Daher was quoted by local media as saying. Daher also said that those who seek to leave and who have filed an application on the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s platform, “will be transported by buses to the Polish border … they will have to leave Poland within two weeks."
• Regarding the emergency numbers set up by the embassy, which many Lebanese have said are not working, Daher said that "an emergency number does not mean an urgent response, but rather a wise and useful response.”
• All flights from or to Ukraine are canceled as the airspace has been closed since yesterday. The Lebanese Foreign Affairs Ministry had advised Lebanese nationals to "leave Ukraine voluntarily and quickly" more than a week ago. On Thursday, it called on them to "stay in safe places.”
