An explosion at a weapons cache in southern Lebanon on Saturday killed six soldiers and injured others, the Lebanese Army said in an official statement.

The people of Lebanon are marking five years since the Beirut port explosion of August 4, 2020 – a blast that has been described as one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history. The detonation pulverised the port, ruined vast sections of the city and was felt as far away as Cyprus. It also claimed the lives of more than 220 people, injured more than 7,000 more and left more than 300,000 homeless.

Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati arrived in Egypt this morning to participate in the "United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27"), which will be held over two days in Sharm El-Sheikh, at the joint invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the United Nations.
The Lebanese delegation to the conference includes Environment Minister Nasser Yassin and Lebanon's Ambassador to Egypt Ali Al-Halabi.
It is expected that Mikati would deliver a speech in the working sessions of the conference, and hold a series of meetings with a number of leaders, presidents and officials.
The annual conference is attended by 197 countries in a bid to discuss climate change and ways to address this problem.
