The new era, symbolized by President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, arrived with an agenda unlike anything Lebanon has known for more than a quarter of a century. The era of the catastrophic “people, army, and resistance” trilogy has ended. The Iranian regime, through its local proxy, forcibly dragging Lebanon into the Gaza “support war” has drawn the contours of this agenda: the legitimate authorities must monopolize “violence,” thereby restoring its status as the sole reference point, and with it restoring the state capable of protecting its people and its land.

MP Nadim Gemayel said that the events of May 7, which took place 18 years ago, marked a turning point that “unmasked” Hezbollah and exposed what he described as its nature as an Iranian-backed armed group that has used its weapons against Lebanese citizens and overridden State authority.
In a post on X, Gemayel said that day was indeed “glorious,” as described by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah back then, because it revealed Hezbollah’s true character, calling it an “Iranian terrorist militia” that turned its weapons inward and “hijacked the State’s decision-making.”
May 7 refers to the 2008 clashes in Lebanon, when Hezbollah and allied factions took control of parts of Beirut during a domestic political crisis.
Gemayel said that, more than ever, there is a need for what he described as a “Beirut liberated from Hezbollah and its weapons,” and for a Lebanese state that is “free, sovereign, and without any arms outside legal authority.”
