The affair of the explosives transported from the Bekaa to Beirut has dispelled hopes that the second anniversary of the assassination of the former secretary-general, Hassan Nasrallah, would be an occasion for reviewing the party's military and political choices in light of its heavy losses and of what Lebanon, and the party's base in particular, has suffered in killing, displacement, and destruction. The discourse of the party and its secretary-general, Naim Qassem, affirmed the continuation of its course and defended it, rather than holding the leadership, its policies, and their results to account.

Hezbollah supporters blocked roads in Beirut and protested the Lebanese government’s attempts to assert sovereignty on October 16 and 17, after a series of government internal security raids compromised Hezbollah’s weapons smuggling, illicit finance, and de facto statelets within Lebanon. Hezbollah officials expressed fury at the government’s unannounced and entirely legitimate police action, and began threatening Lebanon’s government and population with civil conflict if the government continued to challenge Hezbollah’s criminal and terrorist activities on October 19. The Lebanese government responded with measures that Hezbollah officials likely did not expect, including major military deployments to the Hezbollah stronghold in Dahieh, Beirut’s southern suburbs. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s recent statements of resolve to restore the rule of law contrast entirely with Hezbollah’s desired effect, which is to freeze the government into inaction using credible threats of violent unrest.

Kataeb Lawmaker Nadim Gemayel wrote on "X" platform: "We fought the Palestinian organizations in 1975, you accused us of betrayal. At a time when you were showering Israeli tanks with rice..."
"We demanded the withdrawal of the Syrians in 2005, you killed us," he added.
"We called for a culture of life, you insisted on death and dragged us into wars, saying, 'Only if I knew...'," he noted.
"We called for sparing Lebanon from destruction and ruin, you accused us of treason ,forgetting that you are the ones who recognized Israel and drew maritime borders with it. Now at the expense of destruction in Gaza, you want to engage in dialogue with Israel to delineate the land borders," he concluded.
