The Israeli military said three Hezbollah operatives were killed in airstrikes on Sunday after being identified near Israeli troops stationed in southern Lebanon, as tensions persist despite a fragile ceasefire between the two sides.
According to the Israeli army, troops from the 98th Division spotted the three individuals close to what it described as a “forward defense line” in the south. The army said that shortly afterward, the Israeli Air Force carried out a strike, “eliminating the terrorists to remove the threat.”
In a separate statement, the Israeli military said it targeted several buildings used by Hezbollah, including one it described as the group’s “headquarters in the Bint Jbeil sector.” It added that secondary explosions were observed after the strikes, which it said indicated the presence of weapons stored inside the structures.
The escalation comes as Hezbollah continues to expand its use of drones in operations against Israeli forces. The Israeli military said an explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicle launched by the group targeted troops from the Golani Brigade deployed in southern Lebanon, but was intercepted before reaching its target.
The Israeli army also said Hezbollah has increasingly relied on small first-person view (FPV) drones in recent attacks. According to the army, some of these drones are guided via fiber-optic cables rather than conventional radio signals, a method that reduces their vulnerability to electronic jamming.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly convened a security meeting to discuss what Israel describes as repeated Hezbollah violations of the ceasefire in northern areas. According to multiple Israeli media reports, the meeting led to the cancellation of Netanyahu’s scheduled testimony in his ongoing criminal trial.
Reports from Kan, Walla News and other Israeli outlets said the discussions are focused on continued attacks attributed to Hezbollah against Israeli forces and border communities since the truce took effect. Both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement, with Israel carrying out retaliatory strikes while Hezbollah cites Israeli actions as justification for its own operations.
Earlier on Monday, sirens sounded in Israel’s Western Galilee after what the military described as a suspected Hezbollah drone launched from Lebanon. The Israeli army said it lost contact with the aerial target, suggesting it likely crashed before entering Israeli territory.
Security sources cited by Al-Hadath said Hezbollah is attempting to obstruct negotiations between the Lebanese State and Israel by insisting that any talks be conducted exclusively through Iran. The same sources said the group is also seeking to turn villages in Lebanon’s Nabatiyeh district into “open battlefields,” adding that residents in several villages were instructed to evacuate due to the presence of Hezbollah fighters.
On the ground, the Israeli army continued operations in southern Lebanon, which it describes as responses to ongoing ceasefire violations.
According to Lebanon's National News Agency, Israeli artillery shelled villages in the western sector of the Tyre district, hitting Zibqin, Bayt Yahun, the outskirts of Hanin, and the Jabal al-Batam area. The shelling also struck the outskirts of Yater, Tayr Harfa, and Majdal Zoun.
Earlier in the day, Yater in the Bint Jbeil district came under intermittent artillery fire, following an Israeli sweep operation in Bint Jbeil during the morning. During that operation, several tank rounds were fired from a Merkava tank toward residential homes.
At dawn, Israeli forces also carried out demolition operations targeting houses between Yaroun and Bint Jbeil. In a separate incident, an airstrike early in the morning hit the entrance of the village of Kafra, reportedly cutting off the main road.
Separately, reports said Israeli forces demolished structures in Ayta al-Shaab in the Bint Jbeil district. A woman was also reported killed in a drone strike on the town of Qlayleh. Footage circulating online showed the destruction of Hezbollah infrastructure in Adshit al-Qusayr in the Marjayoun district.
On the Israeli side, local authorities in the north suspended education and transportation services in communities considered at risk of rocket fire from Lebanon.
The Israeli military said air raid sirens were activated in several northern towns following fears of a drone infiltration. Israeli Channel 12 reported that a rocket landed in an uninhabited area in the western Galilee.
Israel’s Home Front Command confirmed that sirens sounded across nine locations in the western Galilee following the detection of a drone launched from Lebanon, underscoring the continued state of alert and rising tensions along the border.
