‘New Era for Lebanon’ Billboards Set Ablaze on Beirut Airport Road

Billboards declaring the dawn of a “new era for Lebanon” were set ablaze overnight along the main road leading to Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, just a day after they replaced posters of Hezbollah’s top leaders and key Iranian figures.

The billboards, part of a recent effort to rebrand the airport highway with national colors and non-partisan messaging, had sparked widespread debate on social media after appearing on Thursday. Displaying the Lebanese flag and slogans calling for unity, they were hailed by some as a welcome shift from political iconography that long dominated the capital’s gateway. Others saw them as a provocation.

By early Friday, several of the new billboards were seen charred or fully destroyed, according to images shared widely online and confirmed by local media.
