Over 70 percent of Baalbek’s residents have fled the eastern Lebanese city in recent days following heavy Israeli bombardment and evacuation orders, according to the National News Agency (NNA).

The NNA reported that the shelling struck various parts of the city, including areas surrounding Baalbek Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient Roman ruins. The bombardment also reportedly hit civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and other essential institutions. Tourist facilities were also targeted, raising concerns over the preservation of Baalbek’s cultural heritage and vital services.
