The challenges hindering the return of Syrian refugees are multifaceted, encompassing political and economic barriers. While official Syrian representation at the Global Refugee Forum often expresses willingness to welcome refugee returns, it ties such repatriation to economic aid and the alleviation of imposed sieges.
On the other hand, Syrian refugees in Lebanon and other host countries attending the forum attribute their non-return to ongoing political instability and the unresolved conflict in Syria. Both Lebanon and Syria grapple with precarious political, economic, and security conditions. The issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon persists as a substantial concern, and impediments hinder their return to Syria. While resettlement in a third country is considered an optimal solution, its availability remains uncertain.
