Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam marked the anniversary of President Bashir Gemayel’s assassination on Sunday, emphasizing the need for reconciliation and political accountability to overcome the country’s troubled past.

“More than four decades have passed since the assassination of President Bashir Gemayel… and his motto endures: Lebanon, 10,452 square kilometers,” Salam wrote on X.

“Political assassinations are the antithesis of the freedom and democracy we aspire to. Lebanon can only overcome its wounded past through frank acknowledgment and reconciliation, ending the era of denial and political violence," he added.
