A series of explosions struck the northeastern Lebanese city of Hermel on Friday, injuring more than 10 people and damaging surveillance systems across several locations, Annahar newspaper reported.
The blasts reportedly targeted router devices connected to surveillance cameras, the report noted.
While the exact cause remains unclear, the incident has intensified concerns over a potential campaign of targeted attacks. The explosions follow a wave of anonymous warning messages sent to Lebanese mobile phones on Thursday, cautioning against attacks resembling previous “pager-style” blasts that targeted Hezbollah members a few months ago.
In September 2024, an unprecedented operation targeted Hezbollah’s communications network. Thousands of pagers used by the group's operatives across Lebanon suddenly exploded, causing numerous casualties. Just a day later, a second wave of explosions hit Hezbollah’s radio communication devices, with hundreds of walkie-talkies detonating in a similar fashion, resulting in further deaths and injuries.
