Hezbollah has submitted its formal response to a proposal presented by U.S. envoy Thomas Barrack, reaffirming its commitment to fully implementing the ceasefire agreement and rejecting the need for any new agreement, sources familiar with the matter told Al Jadeed.
The response was delivered late Friday night to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who has been mediating key aspects of the negotiations. According to the sources, Hezbollah insists that the terms of the existing ceasefire deal must be upheld in their entirety and urged Israel to implement the agreement fully and unconditionally.
“There is no need for a new deal that revisits what has already been agreed upon,” Hezbollah reportedly said, stressing that Israel’s full compliance with the ceasefire is essential for progress.
The group also indicated its willingness to engage in discussions over its arsenal, but only within the framework of a national defense strategy or through an internal Lebanese dialogue. It emphasized its openness to “constructive and serious discussion.”
Meanwhile, official sources told Al Jadeed that the joint committee is set to convene Saturday at Baabda Palace to finalize Lebanon’s official response to Barrack’s proposal. The draft response, according to the sources, will reaffirm Lebanon’s position that all weapons must be under the exclusive control of the Lebanese state. However, it will make no mention of any internal dialogue related to Hezbollah’s weapons.
The Lebanese response is also expected to emphasize the country's demand that Israel fully implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
