Cabinet Suggests Imposing Charges on Whatsapp Calls
The Cabinet proposed to impose a $0.20 fee a day for any call made using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) in order to increase revenues to the 2020 state budget, as reported by Telecommunications Minister Mohamed Choucair on Thursday.
If adopted, the proposal would result in a monthly charge of $6 if the user makes a call every day on WhatsApp calls and other calling applications such as Facebook call and FaceTime.
The annual revenues from such a plan would secure about $250 million to the treasury.
