Scotland's Edinburgh to Introduce Tourist Tax
Edinburgh is considering a Transient Visitor Levy (TVL), also known as a tourist tax, which, if applied, would make the city the first to impose it in the United Kingdom.
"A TVL or tourist tax is defined as an additional charge on visitors staying overnight in paid accommodation," explains a brief posted to the Edinburgh government website.
The City Council of Scotland's capital has already approved a daily fee of $2.60. It still needs to be endorsed by the Scottish Parliament before officially coming into effect.
Tourists who opt for camping instead of hotel accomodation will be exempted from said fee; if they stay longer than one week, they will be charged a maximum tax of $18.
